Investigation technique, conservation and restoration of a painting on a metal plate of Qajar period in Iran

Abstract

In this article a Qajar metallic artwork (decorative plate) has been investigated by visual and comparative studies and instrumental chemistry measurements. Technology and identification of how it is made and also preparation of the metallic substrate is investigated. It shows that complementary layer of paint is applied on a metal substrate. Metallurgical studies on metallic supports are done to find how it has been prepared. A remarkable result about the method of preparation and decoration of the object has been obtained. Finally, conservation and restoration techniques have been applied according to accepted standards of conservation principles.
